Ladies Pre-Season Win
Grimsby Town Ladies continued their pre-season training with a 3 - 1 win over Gainsborough Trinity. With 5 new players joining the squad, there was little to distinguish between the two teams for the first twenty minutes. However, on the 25th minute a wonderful through ball from Dye, split the defence and left Taylor to walk the ball around the keeper and slot it in to an empty net.
The game then became a battle of the midfield with neither side creating many chances. On the stroke of half time Trinity equalised with a nicely floated shot over the reach of Wallis.
Grimsby Town started at a higher pace in the second half and began to take control of the middle of the field. Following several near misses from set pieces, it was indeed a corner that led to Town's second. A nicely floated corner from Goodwin was met by L. Smith who connected well (by the hand of God!!!!) to beat the keeper on the 60th minute. Our defence were totally in control for the last 30 minutes with Wallis becoming a virtual spectator. With growing confidence Town began to completely dominate with all the play taking place in Trinity's half of the pitch. There were near misses as Burns, Taylor, Ibbett and Ashton worked Gainsborough's goalkeeper. Town's superior fitness showed in the later stages of the game and with good interchanges in the middle of the park, Goodwin closed out the game with the third.
