Town 1 - 1 Shrewsbury

John McDermott

Town slipped to fourth spot with a draw against the Shrews in a game of two halves, as both Northampton and Orient won their away games.

Town's second half performance was a big improvement on the first half, but the Mariners couldn't quite get the winner that they needed.

Macca, father of twins for the second time at the beginning of the week, was in the starting line-up for the 700th time (the others have seen him come on as substitute).  Mildenhall was thought to be being checked out by Cardiff City.

After three and a half minutes Reddy got past the keeper but was a long way out, and eventually found Parkinson, but the chance petered out when the ball was deflected into the arms of Hart in the Shrewsbury goal via Goodfellow.

Goodfellow then chipped the ball to Reddy, and Town won their first corner after 5 minutes. Woodhouse, as usual curled the ball to the far post, with Town playing the ball around the box, and eventually Hart came out and collected.

There was a worry for Town as a long throw from Burton came off the head of Newey and Mildenhall had to be alert to collect the ball. Then as Reddy collected the ball, he was given a good shove with Referee Friend ignoring the appeals of the Town fans, but a minute later Newey was penalised for the same action. Hogg took the kick curling it in to the near post where the falling Rob Jones was able to clear.

Town's next free-kick was chipped in by Macca with the flag up as the keeper caught cleanly.

Bolland brought Woodhouse in to play, and when Town took a throw-in the cross was wasted.

Gary Jones, through on a pass from Woodhouse, seemed to be fouled just outside the box by keeper Hart, with no joy again from Mr Friend.

Woodhouse tried a long-range effort, again deflected, and Shrewsbury managed to clear their lines.

Gary Jones won a free-kick as the crowd cheered ironically, signalling that they thought he had deserved several more!

Goodfellow broke and released Reddy who was clearly fouled by Hope with a professional foul, but the referee seemed to take the easy way out as he would have had to give at least a yellow.

Hurst headed goalwards and Mildenhall flicked the shot over the bar. The visitors corner saw ...

Goal!: 26:20 Sagi Burton heading home.

Edwards fouled Bolland in a good position for Town. Woodhouse and Goodfellow stood over the ball, and Hart watched the pacy shot all the way.

Reddy went into the area, Woodhouse shot left-footed and the keeper saved with the help of a deflection.

Goodfellow won possession, found Newey, Goodfellow again, and his right-footed cross only found the giant Hart in the Shrews goal.

Reddy took on three men, but the third man managed to push the ball out for a throw-in.

Bolland won the ball, then pushed it to Goodfellow, and Bolland lashed the ball into the crowd.

Reddy was pulled again as he tried to get in the box, but again nothing from Mr Friend, and immediately afterwards Bolland again found Reddy, this time the keeper coming off his line to beat Reddy to the ball.

Town's next corner kick was cleared by Burton.

Shrewsbury won another corner on 40 minutes, this time the header going over the bar.

Town then won a corner via Macca, and with Parkinson failing to put the loose ball away, Referee Friend had already blown for a foul on Hart.

There were worried looks on Town faces as Newey bundled over a Shrews attacker in the box. This time, the referee's lack of a decision helped Town. Newey himself needed treatment as Crofty warmed up.

Shrewsbury won a corner off Macca's calf 30 seconds into the one minute of added time.

Town 0 - 1 Shrewsbury

Newey came out, though Shrewsbury had brought on Tolley for the injured Edwards.

Two minutes into the second half Croft replaced Newey, who was still struggling from his first half injury.

Shrewsbury had another great chance after 49 minutes with Mildenhall impressing the watching scouts with a good save at the expense of a corner, which was cleared, only for the Shrews to win another a short while later.

Town won a series of throws, and Macca crossed to Gary Jones who volleyed perfectly, only to see Hart save brilliantly, then Reddy swept the ball in and this time the ball was cleared for a corner, and this was collected by Hart.

Macca picked up a loose ball, Parkinson chipped in, Woodhouse found Croft and when Reddy spun his heels were clipped for a Town kick a yard outside the box. When the kick came in it found its way to Macca and he belted the ball over the bar.

Shrewsbury won another corner which Reddy cleared.

Mendes replaced Parkinson on 64 minutes.

Immediately play restarted Town won a penalty for handball.

Goodfellow claimed the ball.

Marc Goodfellow

65:12 Goodfellow blasted the ball into the roof of the net, and even with Hart going in the right direction, he stood no chance of getting near it.

Shrewsbury won a corner, and when Stallard looked to have a glorious chance somehow Mildenhall saved, and another corner was cleared. Then Bolland was taken down off the ball, as Reddy lifted the ball towards Gary Jones and Shrewsbury conceded a corner, from which Curtis Woodhouse shot wide of goal.

Bolland was trying to shake off the injury sustained in the previous attack.

Town won a corner on 75 minutes as Goodfellow combined with Reddy.

Disallowed Goal ... 75:12. Rob Jones headed home from the corner but Referee Friend ruled the effort out.

Then Ashton clearly handed off Mendes, but instead of a Town free-kick, the Referee further upset the Pontoonites with a decision for a goal-kick.

Town exerted pressure, and then Goodfellow tried a long-range effort off-target.

Crofty took a long throw towards Reddy, and when the ball came to Macca his cross was punched out for a corner. Town played the ball all around, and again Hart punched the ball, this time out for a throw, and as Hart went down the referee told him to get up, and he needed full fitness when Mendes headed a Bolland cross goalwards.

Rob Jones conceded a corner with 3 minutes of normal time remaining. Crofty brought the ball out, looked for Reddy but Hart was out to collect.

Bolland was caught by Stallard, as Cadwallader came on for Hurst, and Futcher replaced Whittle.

There were appeals for a penalty from Town fans as Burton grabbed Reddy, waved away by Mr Friend.

Shrewsbury were defending desperately as it was all Town, but to no avail.
