The Mariners were back to their meanest best - not conceding a goal in the first half after last week's Wycombe goal was the first in 20 games, hitting the top spot, and achieving 10 away games on the trot unbeaten.  For good measure, this was their 9th LEAGUE away game without defeat, beating the former LEAGUE record set in 1956.

Jean-Paul Kalala returned to the team for the long Friday night journey to Cheltenham.

Macca saved the first danger of the game after 3 minutes when he read the ball and got it back to Mildenhall when Cheltenham had a sight on goal.

The Robins gained the first corner after 4 minutes, and Mildenhall palmed the ball away. In the next minute the ball was returned into the Town box another twice as Cheltenham tried to gain the early advantage.

After 10 minutes there was a shout for a penalty as Duff appeared to handle in the box and Gary Jones did well to smash the ball goalwards only top see it scream over the bar.

Odejayi did well in beating Rob Jones and forcing Mildenhall to save.

Goal!: 15:03 Bolland had a fabulous run from midfield and finished off by beating the keeper at the near post.

After this setback Cheltenham came at the Mariners before Town went back up to the other end and won a corner. Craig Armstrong became the first booking of the night when he challenged Simon Francis. Newey took the free-kick, but there was no danger from the kick.

On the half-hour Whittle conceded a corner and Kevin Connolly had a free-header which he made a mess of. Kalala took the ball away, and cleared Town's lines. McCann then had a free-kick 30 yards out, and the referee gave a yellow for the kick being taken too early.

The game had become scrappy with ten minutes still to go to half-time.

Wilson went all the way to the by-line, but Kalala intercepted before any danger could occur, and Town put the ball out for a corner which was fielded by Mildenhall.

Two minutes before half-time Simon Francis had a crack at goal when Kalala may have been the better option.

Two minutes of added time was signalled, and almost immediately Reddy ran onto the ball and unleashed a shot which Shane Higgs got down to and Gary Jones couldn't quite reach the loose ball.

Town had a corner more than two minutes into time added on, with the referee blowing the whistle as Newey's corner came over.

Half-time: Town 1 - 0 Cheltenham

There were no changes at half-time.

The first action of the second half saw Referee Probert book a third Cheltenham player.

Then Gary Jones became Town's first booking of the game when he stood over a free-kick to prevent it being taken.

Newey was then booked after 56 minutes when he dived in for a tackle.

Gary Jones conceded a free-kick 30 yards out, but despite a clever tactic the ball went out for a goal-kick.

Odejayi went on a run, with Whittle doing enough to put the player off.

On 61 minutes Odejayi had a great opportunity to level the scores when Melligan centred, but the big front man blasted the ball against the bar when it seemed simpler to score.

Newey did well to put the ball into the crowd when Melligan tried to repeat his earlier cross.

But all of a sudden, the ball was switched to the other end ...

Goal!: 63:49 Reddy ran onto the ball and with a one on one he slotted the ball home.

Immediately, Parkinson was replaced by Gary Cohen.

Bolland conceded another free-kick in a dangerous position, but Mildenhall plucked the ball out of the air comfortably.

Odejayo played in Melligan, but he wasted the opportunity by putting the ball out.

After 79 minutes, Martin Gritton replaced Gary Jones.

Macca did well to touch a ball from Melligan over his own bar, coolly defending Town's two-goal lead. The corner saw Cheltenham put the ball into the Town box three times but couldn't get a worthwhile shot on target.

Cheltenham continued to press, but Whittle and Bolland made sure that in the next attack the ball was shepherded out for a Robins throw. Reddy took the ball upfield and expertly won a corner having used up some of the precious time as well. From the corner Cohen had two chances a header and a left foot shot which was saved by Higgs.

After 87 minutes Ramsden replaced Francis.

undefined

Goal!: 90:15 The ball was played forward, and Cohen gave the defender 10 yards ... and still beat him for pace, slotting the ball home calmly to put Town 3 up, 3 points and top of the division!
