Town 1 - 2 Carlisle

Town's fourth game in eight days had everything that you could wish for - cracking goals, goalmouth scrambles, great saves, a sending off, a missed penalty and Town hitting the woodwork 2 times - but the downside was that the Mariners home hoodoo struck again, as Town's heroes with tired legs at last had to concede the three points to promotion hopefuls Carlisle.

Matt Bloomer

Matthew Bloomer made his debut for Town in his current loan spell. Whittle returned, and Rob Jones was back in after having to miss Saturday's second half through injury.

Former Town keeper Williams was on the bench for Carlisle.

There looked to be a good crowd as the game started in a lively fashion without troubling either keeper in the first few minutes, but that changed dramatically just after 7 minutes ....

Ciaran Toner

Goal!: 7:23: Town won a free-kick, and as the ball came back out to Ciaran Toner, he hammered a wonderful long-range drilled shot from 25 yards.

Goal!: 13:39: Aranalde lashed the ball into the net after a Carlisle free-kick had not been cleared, with the first shot coming back off the post.

Reddy went down in the box on 17 minutes, claiming that his heels had been clipped, but referee Parks was not interested.

Hawley, looking lively, got a strike on goal, but straight at Mildenhall.

Bloomer found Parkinson, then Newey tried to bring in Michael Reddy but the ball was too long.

There was ironic applause from Town fans as the referee gave Town a decision.

Reddy took on three defenders, and this time the linesman signalled a free-kick, which was about 30 yards from goal, and Newey's shot whistled past the near post.

Holmes brought a good save from Mildenhall after 27 minutes.

Carlisle won a corner, which Mildenhall collected comfortably, but it wasn't long before Carlisle had regained possession.

On 32 minutes Hawley passed Whittle and unleashed his shot which cannoned off the bar.

Newey's free-kick was returned to him, and when he put the ball over Gary Jones went to the near post, but couldn't get his header on target.

Bolland found Reddy, who was fouled, and the big men went up for Newey's free-kick, and it took a terrific double save from a double strike by Paul Bolland, with Town gaining a corner, from which Gary Jones took the ball on his chest and then lifted the ball high over the bar.

Toner brought in Gary Jones, and as he picked out Andy Parkinson, the Carlisle keeper blocked as the former Tranmere man shot.

Town won a corner as the fourth official held up the board to show 2 minutes, with Gary Jones being adjudged to have fouled the keeper.

Half-time: Town 1 - 1 Carlisle

No substitutions were made at half-time.

Carlisle were the first to show through Aranalde, and when the ball was cleared, Ciaran Toner was seen to be down with an injury, which required treatment from Dave Moore.

Jones did well to dispossess Hawley when the diminutive striker seemed to have gone past him.

Reddy was on the left touch-line, played to Toner, then on to Bolland whose great shot was tipped away by a brilliant save from Westwood in the Carlisle goal. Newey took the resulting corner, which was headed away at the near post. There was fury from all the home fans and the Town bench when a throw was given to Carlisle, but the Mariners regained possession when it was taken.

Toner and Reddy combined to bring in Parkinson whose cross-shot was cleared, but picked up by Newey and from his through ball Carlisle cleared for a corner as Reddy threatened.

Reddy seemed to be shoved in the back and went down as he streaked towards the goal, but again Mr Parks ruled against the Mariners. There were ironic cheers when Town were given a throw-in.

Parkinson then tried a diving header at the near post after a Reddy pass to Toner and then Newey who crossed the ball in.

After 65 minutes, Barwick and Gritton came on for Gary Jones and Gary Cohen.

Parkinson then won a corner from a Bolland pass. Newey's corner was driven over and Aranalde did well to clear but Parkinson drove it in for the keeper to save.

Bolland was booked for a foul on 69 minutes, and then Reddy was booked for handball after 71 minutes.

Goal!; 75:22 A melee developed in the Town box, with everyone scrambling for the ball, but there was Aranalde to head the ball in at the far post with Jones desperately trying to get to the ball.

Penalty! A great attack involving several Town players saw Reddy head the ball goalwards only for Gray to deliberately handle the ball. The penalty was awarded and Gray was sent off.

Tom Newey

Newey took the kick ...

78:30 ... and hit the underside of the bar, from where the ball was cleared. It was Town's first penalty miss of the season.

Gritton had a golden opportunity when Andy Parkinson chipped to the far post, but the striker hit the outside of the post.

Nick Hegarty

After 83 minutes Hegarty replaced the injured Reddy.

With four minutes to go, Town won a corner, taken by Newey, and Jones headed the ball over the top.

A Bolland drive was saved by the keeper, and when Gritton went for it a free-kick was given.

Town won a free-kick after a push on Bloomer, Newey hit long, but the ball was cleared, Hegarty played to Bolland and won a throw. Bloomer took a long throw, and Rob Jones headed back for Hegarty to volley and hit the top of the bar.

Town won a couple of throws and Rob Jones headed just over.

The fourth official raised his board for 2 minutes to be added, though it was already two minutes into stoppage time when the board was raised.

Newey lifted a free-kick into the box, which was cleared.
