Because of a pending appeal, Nick Fenton was allowed to play after his sending off on Saturday.

Gary Harkins was preferred to Paul Bolland in midfield. John McDermott returned from injury at right back.

The visitors made their intentions clear and it was no surprise that they took the lead on 13 minutes.

After a handball by Pulis, Mocquet's free-kick some how found it's way to Simon Ramsden to scoop the ball into the far corner past Barnes.

Dale had had two previous efforts from Rundle and Jones well saved by Phil Barnes.

With two minutes overtime added at the end of the first half, with it looking like the Mariners would be just one goal down going into the break, Dale doubled their lead.

Sloppy marking from a corner allowed Murray to rise unattended and head firmly past Barnes.

Half-Time: Town 0 Rochdale 2

Nick Hegarty replaced was replaced by Danny North andAnthony Pulis made way for Paul Bolland at the start of the second half.

Paterson ran through, fired a low effort which was heading for the bottom left hand corner, but some how, Gilkes flew down to his right to turn the bal around the post.

Minutes later Dale almost doubled their lead. Mocquet's cross to the far post was met by Dagnall who headed wide from a good position.

But on 66 minutes the visitors did make it three. A cross from the right was headed on by Dagnall for Rundle to side foot past a stranded Barnes.

On 72 minutes Rochdale added a fourth. An inswinging corner from the left was met by Simon Ramsden's right foot to sink the Mariners without a trace.
