TOWN boss Graham Rodger made two changes from the side that beat Lincoln City in a penalty shoot out on Tuesday night. Andy Butler returned for the injured Justin Whittle, and Tony Thorpe returned after missing the Imps game.

Danny Boshell kept his place in the side because of a Ricky Ravenhill's suspension.

Tom Newey kept his place in the Town defence, at the expense of John McDermott.

Two former Mariners sent the Mariners crashing to their third home defeat of the season.

Junior Mendes had opened the scoring just before the hour mark when he swept home David Pipe's right-wing cross, and Jason Lee late diving header sealed the win for the high-flying Magpies.

But it could have been a different story if the Mariners had converted their early chances.

In the very first minute, Nick Fenton got on the end of a Ciaran Toner corner but his powerful header went over the crossbar.

Bore's deflected effort was saved by Pilkington on 5 minutes. Soon after the Notts' stopper was in action again, pulling off a superb save to deny Nick Fenton.

The lively Mendes cut in and fired over on the half hour, and Ciaran Toner almost gave Town the lead moments later when his powerful low shot was well saved by Pilkington.

On 35 minutes the Magpies broke collimating in Parkinson's low drive which left Barnes rooted to his spot as it flashed wide.

Half time: Grimsby Town 0 Notts County 0

Nether side made any changes for the start of the second half.

Gleeson had a good chance to give the Magpies the lead at the start of the second half. The ball evaded everyone from a corner and found the player unmarked at the far post, fortunately for Town he headed over the bar.

On 60 minutes, a good cross by Pipe found Mendes' head, who gave Barnes no chance from close in.

Almost instantly, the Mariners introduced Nick Hegarty for the ineffective Tony Thorpe. Paul Bolland was replaced by Gary Harkns as Town looked to turn things around.

Bore forced Pilkington into a good save from a corner, and he made a comfortable save from Toner, after a superb through ball by Harkins.

On 82 minutes it was 2-0. Town failed to clear a corner and Lee was on hand at the far post to send a diving header home.

In added on time Gary Jones' weak header was wide of the left hand post.
