Alan Buckley was forced to make one change from the side that beat Accrington Stanley ten days earlier, Ricky Ravenhill coming in for the injured Paul Bolland.

The home side started the brighter and they caused Town problems with their wing play.

Gross' cross was met by Birchall on 12 minutes but his header was just wide.

Hatch's dangerous cross was cleared by Whittle.

At the other end Paterson saw an overhead kick saved by Harrison.

But the Mariners hit the home side on the break on 28 minutes. Nick Hegarty put the Paterson through, he rounded the keeper and stroked the ball into the empty net.

The Mariners continued to look good on the break and Ricky Ravenhill saw his goal-bound shot well blocked.

On 36 minutes the home side had a good chance to level things. Puncheon's probing cross was met by Hatch but his header was just off target.

First Half Possession: Barnet 57% Town 43%

Half-Time: Barnet 0 Town 1

Town started the second half brightly and Nick Fenton headed a Ricky Ravenhill corner just wide.

And Gary Jones should have done better with his effort. Instead of going with his head the big frontman tried a difficult shot which was wide.

Puncheon's dangerous ball fizzed across the Town box with Croft getting the final touch. From the corner Hatch's header was well saved by Barnes.

At the other end Pulis' long range effort was easily fielded by the Bee's keeper.

Jones' delicate ball put Hegarty in on goal but the youngster's weak effort was too easy for Harrison.

Barnet sub Magno Vieira almost got on the end of a dangerous diagonal ball which flashed across the Town goal.

The Mariners again hit the Bees on the break, Jones put Till in who tried to lob the keeper.

Minutes later Graham brought a fantastic save from Phil Barnes.

Ravenhill pinched the ball in the Barnet half but his pass to Paterson was a poor one and the chance was lost.

On 81 minutes a brilliant run by Paterson, who jinked left and right, turned and hit a right foot shot against the foot of the post.

On 84 minutes Croft fouled Birchall., and from the free kick Whittle headed clear. From Bailey's corner Barnes did well to clear with his fist.

3 minutes were added on at the end of the second half. In the second minute of extra time Puncheon saw his effort well saved by Barnes.

Did you know?

It was the Mariners' third clean sheet in 5 matches under Alan Buckley.

It was Town's 4th lowest league gate ever since records were kept in 1925. The Wimbledon game was only lower because there was a boycott that day.

More later . .
