Grimsby Town vs Northampton
 0 - 2
Date:
21/11/2006
Venue:
Blundell Park
Attendance:
2657
Referee:
D Deadman
The Mariners fell behind to an 18th minute own goal by Justin Whittle. Quinn's through ball was chased by Whittle and McGleish, and under pressure from the Northampton striker, the Town defender steered the ball past Barnes.

The Cobblers made it two on the stroke of half time. McDermott slipped on the Town right, Holt took advantage and found Burnell who headed past Barnes.

Minutes earlier Gary Jones had a chance to pull Town. Whittle's up and under was met by Jones in the Northampton box, who's first time shot was well saved by Bunn in the Cobblers' goal.

Nick Fenton saw a tremendous goal bound effort blocked for a corner, and Nick Hegarty saw his shot well saved by the visitors stopper.

The half time score-line was hardly a reflection on a half in which the Mariners had no less than eight shots on target.

Half Time: Grimsby Town 0 Northampton Town 2

Peter Bore replaced Nick Hegarty at the start of the second half.

The Mariners started brightly and North's run was brought to an end as he was fouled on the edge of the Cobblers' box. Harkins' free kick was turned away brilliantly by Bunn.

Ricky Ravenhill replaced Gary Harkins on 62 minutes.

For all the Mariners efforts, the Northampton defence held firm and it will be they who will travel to Barnet on Saturday week.
