PETER Till and Danny North both recovered from injuries to start for the Mariners final game of the season at Hereford United.
North joined Nathan Jarman in the Town attack in a 4-4-2 formation. Transfer listed players Ciaran Toner and Nick Fenton were both left out.
The Mariners were hoping to spoil the promotion party and end a run of eight defeats on the trot.
For the first 30 minutes the Mariners bossed the game but fell behind to a sloppy goal on 36 minutes.
Taylor was given time and space to guide a pass through for Ben Smith to neatly finish past Barnes.
Six minutes later, in a carbon copy of the first goal, United added a second. Taylor was again given room and as the Town defence parted, Theo Robinson nipped in to give Barnes no chance as he fired home.
Matthew Bird replaced Danny North and Martin Butler came on for Nathan Jarman after the break.
United almost added a third on 71 minutes. First Barnes pulled off a brilliant save from Robinson and then Benjamin saw his effort brilliantly cleared off the line by Matthew Bird.
The Mariners improved defensively in the second half but failed to trouble keeper Esson.
Town boss Alan Buckley can take heart from the performance of young defender Matty Bird as he looks to next season.
