Have Your Say On The New Stadium
Following a failed attempt by developer Henry Boot, to have Grimsby Town Football Club's Planning Permission judicially reviewed, Town supporters and the people of the town have been making their views heard.
Below is a sample of some of the feedback that we have received.

Despicable Councillor Actions
Isn't it rich to receive the note below on the message board from Councillor Lib-Dem Geoff Lowis.
"I have fully supported the development at Great Coates since its inception, and you cannot prove otherwise. It isn't dependent on stopping retail development in the town centre, which Grimsby really does need to compete with Hull and Lincoln. We can have both, but the actions of the town chairman regarding the Henry Boot scheme were way over the top. The Council can work with him to ensure the correct revision to the planning application, and help with funding, which I will pursue if re-elected. I have supported the club for longer than Mr Fenty and will continue to do so. The Tories locally are running a rather nasty campaign against me. I am sorry you have been drawn into this".
Could it be anything to do with the election that he is now saying this?
Where has he been before?
When has he supported the clubs scheme? NEVER
Why has he publically supported the Henry Boot Development when their own actions towards the club confirm the two schemes compete with each other in terms of retail?
Henry Boot wanted the Clubs scheme dead and Councillor Lowis supported that. FACT
He refused to publically support the clubs proposals publically even though he had been asked. SAYS IT ALL
What has the man achieved? NOWT
Posted by FWM (Faldingworth Mariner) on 26/4/2008, 7:51 amMy view is that any development in the Town Centre could create parking problems irrespective of whether the company running it is Henry Boot and Co.
You can't get in and out of Alexandra Road with all of the on street parking on a good day let alone if the amount of access traffic doubled. This development will make life hell for residents in that area. I lived around there as a child and have seen the changes. The actions of this company in attempting to force a judicial review have now raised a greater awareness of their own issues and those of us with a genuine concern should make our voices heard.

Really excellent post FWM. The centre of town hasn't recovered from the disaster that is the new Tesco's on Victoria street. Already a lot of traffic uses Corporation Road to cut down Alex. road. The chaos if this development is built doesn't bear thinking about. On most Saturdays traffic doesn't movebetween Lock Hill and F.W.Way.
However I have no doubt that by offering loads of jobs etc. the council will be seduced into providing exactly what H.B./Debenhams etc. ask for.

This is were the new ground becomes more of a viable option for companies. If it is easier to get to and easier to park guess were most people will go. Henry Boot know this and thought they would throw a spanner in the works and they have by 6 months and extra cost to the club. They should be made to pay any costs incurred for the delay and costs towards pushing the new site forward by 6 months.
As for our council, if you was trying to get as much revenue from companies and the more central to Town the higher you could charge who would you bend over backwards to help.
The new stadium wouldn't make the council as much money through rates as a Town centre development would. It is more about money than regeneration.

Posted by Man in the know on 24/4/2008, 9:41 amHenry Boots Retail scheme should never have been allowed to enter the planning system. Apparently they waited until the last day of the 3-month review period in which they could apply for Judicial Review, before submitting their application, effectively delaying the Club's scheme to the maximum extent. How appalling.

Another set back for Town, when will it end. We must have the worst council in the world. Hull council, Scunthorpe council, Southend council have all helped those clubs towards relocation, our council have thrown a spanner in the works at every opportunity.

The council had to say that Henry Boots development was being supported as it was in the planning system and could not be negative as that would have harmed our court case. Its all down to HB and their cynical method of blocking the stadium project. Boycott any development they build in town I say. Show them how the town fans feel about their approach to our club.
