YOUNG defender Grant Normington has been offered the chance to prove himself with the Mariners after being offered a six-month pro-contract.

Normington, who has been a regular in Town's Reserves this season, was originally a midfield player but has been converted to full-back by Neil Woods and Stuart Watkiss.

And while some of Grant's fellow youth team team-mates were being released, the Yorkshire born player is hoping to impress the Town management team and earn himself a more permanent deal.

"I have been the lucky one who has been kept on. I've worked hard, trained with the first team, and to be kept on is a dream come true."

How did Grant end up playng for Neil Woods' side?

"I was playing for a local Hull side and we had a friendly against Grimsby Town. I played well in that game and Woodsey got in contact with me.

"My preferred position is centre midfield but I'd say I'm a better right-back now."

What now?

"Obviously a six month contract isn't that long, so I've got to work my hardest in training and hopefully get my chance. Hopefully I can prove to the gaffer that I can be a decent right-back and hopefully long term at Grimsby Town.
