Just 2 Rolling Subs Positions Remaining
THERE are just 2 rolling substitute places remaining in the ever-popular Chairman's Challenge game at Blundell Park on Thursday night.
We've gone to great lengths to bring some fantastic Grimsby Town legends back to Blundell Park for this latest instalment of the Chairman's Challenge.
The price is just £100 for a rolling substitute's position and can be booked by calling Lucie on 01472 608006 or emailing lucie@gtfc.co.uk
Some of the names set for the Chairman's Challenge this time around include:
Gary Childs
Former Birmingham winger Gary Childs spent eight fantastic years at Blundell Park from 1989 to 1997. A key member of Alan Buckley's double promotion winning side of 1989 to 1991, Childs impressed with his tricky play and eye for spectacular goals. Gary now works with the club's Football in the Community scheme, as well as coaching the Grimsby Institute Academy side.
Jim Dobbin
All-action midfielder Jim Dobbin makes a long overdue return to Blundell Park. The former Celtic star enjoyed two spells with the Mariners and amassed nearly 200 appearances in the black and white stripes. A classy passer of the ball, Jim left his mark on Mariners' folklore with the stunning winner at Newcastle in the 1992/93 season.
JOHN McDermott
A Mariners legend, John McDermott retired at the end of last season after over 750 appearances for the club. Macca was a product of the club's successful Youth set-up and will make his first playing appearance at Blundell Park since his retirement. A double Wembley winner, John now coaches the Grimsby Institute Academy side alongside Gary Childs.
Steve Croudson
Athletic goalkeeper Steve Croudson came through the Blundell Park ranks in the late-90s. Thrust into first team action against Wolves in 1999, Croudson put in a Man-of-the-Match performance. His career was curtailed by injury, but he has returned to Blundell Park as goalkeeping coach, and tested his skills with a recent run-out for the Reserves against Scunthorpe. Will be playing in an unfamiliar striking role for this game.
Alan Buckley
The legendary Grimsby Town manager is now in his third spell at Blundell Park as boss. During his playing career Buckley was a striker of some repute with Walsall, Nottingham Forest and Birmingham. A record holder at Walsall where he netted over 200 times in all competitions, Alan still has that predatory instinct that makes him a threat in the penalty area.
Dave Moore
Tough tackling defender Dave Moore was part of a batch of youngsters that came through the Blundell Park ranks in the late-70s. Helping the club from the Fourth to Second Divisions in successive seasons, Dave made the right back slot his home. After his playing career ended, Dave tried his hand at management with Scunthorpe and was Assistant at Hull before becoming physio at Blundell Park.
Tommy Watson
Midfielder Tommy Watson was one of the stars of Alan Buckley's double promotion-winning side of 1989 to 1991. Watson was a real all-rounder with great skill, pace and goalscoring instinct. Tommy still continues to ply his trade in the local leagues and runs a successful Soccer School for youngsters.
Neil Woods
Classy striker Neil Woods was a firm favourite at Blundell Park after joining the club in August 1990. A regular goalscorer in his eight years at the club, Neil was part of many a cup upset for the Mariners. Now the club's Head of Youth, Neil has had a major role in the development of current Town stars Andy Taylor, Danny North, Nick Hegarty, Peter Bore, Ryan Bennett and Matthew Bird.
And finally?
John Fenty
Grimsby Town Chairman John Fenty will pull on the famous Town shirt again for this latest Chairman's Challenge. A solid player in his own right, Fenty shows tremendous on-field leadership and his commitment to the cause is an inspiration to his teammates. Even though John trains every week with Steve Wraith's S W Steelers, Wraith refuses to comment on his Chairman's footballing skills.
Steve Wraith
Unfortunately Steve has hurt his little toe and won't be able to play (bless him). His mummy says he will be able to play in the next game if he doesn't fall over again.
