Signed for the Mariners on a two-year deal during the summer of 2007 after spending three months on loan last season.
Hunt began his career at Notts County before a move to Northampton Town in 1997.
He went on to play over 200 times for the Cobblers in five years before a move to Oxford United.
Hunt became captain of the Pirates but a much-publicised fall-out with boss Paul Trollope saw him look for a move away from Memorial Stadium.
He impressed the Town boss during his loan spell and kept his promise to return when his contract at Rovers had expired.
